This was kindly sent
in by Emma Wilson who adapted the idea from a Blue Peter invention.
Things you will need:
-
Small electrical crocodile
clips (These can be found in hardware shops, if
you buy insulated just remove outer plastic)
-
Wire - this needs to
be stiff enough to stand up straight. I got some which
resembles brake wire (aging from hardware shops)
-
Plaster of Paris
-
Plastic flexible ice
cube tray
-
Spray paint
-
Superglue
-
Handy Tools - Wire
cutters, pliers and drill.
Making the Placecards:
-
Make the clips on wire.
The crocodile clips have a piece of metal which extends
down from the main 'clip'. This has two small pieces of
metal either side of it. I simply put the wire against
this extended bit of metal and bent (with pliers) the
side bits over the wire to hold it in place. I guess this
could also be done with a smaller bit of wire or a soldering
iron.
-
Make your stands. I
used a plastic flexible ice cube tray. Simply mix the
plaster of Paris (as per instructions on box/packet) and
fill the ice cube tray. When this has set - 'pop' the
stands out of the tray and leave to dry.
-
At this point you can
spray your stands with your spray paint with the colour
scheme you are using for your wedding.
-
Make a small hole (big
enough to fit the wire) in the tops of the stands (I had
to use a drill bit!!) - and then stand the wire in the
holes and superglue in place.
They look really effective
and take no time at all to make.
Go ahead girls give it
a go, you can make them personal and unique to fit in with
your scheme.
Even adding to them if you wish. Let us know how you get on
if you do.
